Island of Kindness —

A Sanctuary for Vegans and Animal Rights Advocates

Welcome to Your Safe Space. Take a breath and relax

🏝️ Welcome to the Island of Kindness

A sanctuary for vegans, animal rights advocates, and anyone who has ever felt the weight of compassion in an unkind world.

I wasn’t always vegan.
I was a dairy farmer. I ate meat at most meals. And while I could see that animals were sentient beings with thoughts, feelings, and personalities, I didn’t want to look too closely. I wanted to be “kind enough” — kind enough to feel like a good person, without the inconvenience of real change.

I knew there were documentaries like Dominion, Earthlings, and Lucent. I avoided them. I fast-forwarded. I turned them off. I looked away.

Until one day, I didn’t.
I was tired of my own excuses. So I sat down and forced myself to watch them all — back to back. And what I saw shattered me. I was horrified. Ashamed. Crushed under the weight of my own ignorance and complicity. I grieved — deeply and painfully — for months.

When the fog of that initial grief began to settle, I tried to tell people what I’d learned. I believed people were good, that they’d want to know. I thought my friends and family would join me, that we’d stand together for a kinder world.

Only one person did. The rest dismissed, minimised, or reacted with hostility.
I held my ground — but it came at a cost. I lost friends. I felt the world retreat.

It’s a dark and lonely place to stand when your ethical values separate you from the crowd — when all you’re asking for is kindness, compassion, and an end to violence and suffering.

But I stood there anyway.
I became an animal rights activist, searching for community and shared hope. Over time, I also trained and built a small holistic therapy practice — weaving together art, movement, talk therapy, Reiki, massage, and sylvan therapy. Healing, in its many forms.

Recently, as I began creating guided meditations and self-help tools to share online, I thought back to those early, painful days. The grief. The loneliness. The desperate wish for a soft place to land.

And so, the Island of Kindness was born.
A quiet, gentle sanctuary — not for everyone, but for those who need it most. A space where we can acknowledge how isolating it can be to be part of a marginalised movement. A place to affirm compassion, respect, and nonviolence — not just for animals, but for ourselves and each other.

“This space was born from deep compassion. A quiet acknowledgment of the suffering of animals and the people who stand up for them. Activism can be exhausting, painful, and lonely — but you are not alone.
The Island of Kindness at Cloud House is a soft landing place for those who give so much of themselves. Here, your heart is safe, your voice is valued, and your pain is heard.”

Welcome home. 🌿

Island of Kindness Community Book Project

“Our Stories. Our Art. Our Compassion.”

The Island of Kindness was created as a soft landing place for vegan hearts — a space of care, healing, and connection. Now, I want to open the circle wider and invite you to be part of something beautiful and shared.

This is a community storytelling and art project, created by vegans, for vegans and animal advocates. Together, we will create a collective narrative book — filled with real voices, honest reflections, and artwork that celebrates the courage, compassion, and resilience that lives within this movement.

🖋 What you can share:

  • Your personal vegan story (short or long — whatever feels true for you)

  • Original artwork, illustration, photography, or poetry

  • Words from the heart, whether tender, fierce, grieving, or hopeful

🌱 Why this matters:
Our stories are powerful. They remind us that we are not alone — that our compassion connects us. By sharing your art and voice, you’re helping to build a safe, warm community narrative that honours both the pain and the beauty of this journey.

📘 About the book:

  • The final book will be lovingly collated and lightly edited into a community collection.

  • It will be made available at a low price to cover printing and editing costs, with the goal of keeping it accessible to all.

  • All contributors will be acknowledged in the book (you may choose your name, initials, or remain anonymous).

✍️ Important:
By uploading or submitting your story and/or artwork, you give permission for it to be included in the community book project and for the work to be published in physical and digital formats. There is no monetary exchange — this is a collective gift from and for the community.

🌸 Together, we can weave something warm, honest, and kind — a shared story of vegan hearts and the world we are trying to create.
